Nonprofit Status

Open Signal Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (pending IRS approval). We operate exclusively for charitable and humanitarian purposes. Contributions to Open Signal Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Upon approval of our 501(c)(3) status, donors will receive appropriate documentation for tax purposes. Until such approval, donations may not be tax-deductible, and donors should consult with a tax professional regarding the deductibility of their contributions.

Use of Donations

Donations to Open Signal Foundation support our humanitarian mission to ensure communication access during internet shutdowns and emergencies. Funds are allocated to:

  • Emergency communication access programs
  • Connectivity support during blackouts
  • Partner-led distribution initiatives
  • Research and policy guidance work
  • Operational and administrative functions necessary to fulfill our mission

Donation Terms

By making a donation to Open Signal Foundation, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

  • All donations are voluntary and made at your discretion
  • Donations are generally non-refundable, except in cases of processing errors or as required by applicable law
  • You are responsible for ensuring that your donation complies with all applicable laws and regulations
  • You have the legal right to make the donation using the payment method you select
  • All information you provide in connection with your donation is accurate and complete

Recurring Donations

If you choose to make a recurring donation, you authorize Open Signal Foundation to charge your payment method on a recurring basis (monthly, quarterly, or annually, as selected) until you cancel. You may cancel your recurring donation at any time by contacting us at info@opensignalfoundation.org. Cancellation will take effect at the end of the current billing cycle.

Payment Processing

Donations are processed through secure third-party payment processors. Open Signal Foundation does not store your complete payment card information on our servers. All payment information is encrypted and transmitted securely to our payment processors in accordance with industry standards.

Refund Policy

Donations to Open Signal Foundation are generally considered final and non-refundable. However, we will issue refunds in the following circumstances:

  • Processing errors or duplicate charges
  • Unauthorized transactions
  • As required by applicable law

To request a refund, please contact us at info@opensignalfoundation.org within 30 days of the donation date. Refund requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Receipts and Tax Documentation

After making a donation, you will receive an email confirmation that serves as your donation receipt. For tax purposes, please retain this receipt. Upon approval of our 501(c)(3) status, donors will receive official tax-deductible donation receipts as required by the IRS.
